I've been an Ex-Christian since 2002. Though I've learned more on the internet about the bible and Christianity than I ever did in church. What does it say about an Ex-C who hangs out on Ex-C forums? Are we here because we miss it? Here to be part of a group support system for people leaving the religion? For debate with Christians? What say you?

I don't miss it at all. It's more about online community with like minded people, and the odd pwn of which ever christians try to square off with me about christianity and theistic religion. But I've become rather generous with apologist's in recent years after winding down a lot from years of arguing back and forth. After you've argued every argument there is to argue, and make a lap, the consecutive laps can become redundant in time.

I only deconverted within the past five years or thereabouts, so the godless life is still relatively new to me. Still getting used to it in some ways. So to be able to be a part of a community of people who have traveled the same road is incredibly valuable to me. I love having the discussions we have begun to have here in these forums, from a shared basis of rejection of Christianity. Otherwise in life I’m surrounded by people who either actively believe or at least pay lip-service to Christianity or other theistic world views. It’s great to hang out, if only online, with folks who don’t believe any of it and are happy to say so.

I enjoy not feeling like I have to be neutral or hide my stance on Christianity here, like I usually do in person. It's fun to not have to bite my tongue here while elsewhere, like Facebook I hold back. Otherwise people would just defriend me. I've minimally engaged a couple people on Facebook who I've seen go from heathen to fundy. It's rather interesting (and kind of sad) to watch them begin to spout Christian bullshit that I used to hold dear and assert as well.
